Châtel, both a ski resort and a traditional alpine village, benefits from its protected environment and from its authentic mountain architecture. Situated between 1050 and 2430 m in altitude and conveniently nested at the end of the Abondance valley in Haute Savoie it shares a border with Morgins in Switzerland.
Châtel is one of the 12 linked ski resorts on both sides of this Swiss/French border that make up the world wide known ski area of the Portes du Soleil. These resorts include Morzine Avoriaz, Champery, Les Gets and Morgins. The Cremaillere is situated just next to one of the main lifts into the Portes du Soleil domain.
